Why Every American Should Consider a Bidet (Yes, Really)

Do you care about the environment?

Do you care about how you smell in public?

Do you want a clean derrière?

Then we need to talk about bidets.

More specifically — installing a TOTO Washlet or similar toilet seat bidet.

I know what you're thinking: “I’m American. I don’t use a bidet.”

That was me too.

From Skeptic to Convert

When we remodeled our house around 2018, my wife pushed hard for installing a bidet seat.

I was skeptical. It felt… unnecessary.

Fast forward to today — we’re on our second one.

Short of showering after every bathroom visit, a bidet is simply the cleanest way to finish the job. It’s not complicated.

It’s not weird.

It’s just water.

And once you get used to it, you won’t want to go back.

Trust me.

The Unexpected Perks

Cleanliness is the obvious benefit. But modern bidet seats offer more than just a spray of water.

Here’s what surprised me:

  • Heated seat (underrated luxury)

  • Warm air dryer

  • Built-in deodorizer

  • Adjustable spray position and pressure

  • Temperature control

We live in California — it’s not exactly freezing — but it gets cold enough that sitting on a cold toilet seat at 6:00 a.m. is not ideal.

As you get older, you start appreciating small comforts.

And yes — the deodorizer is a feature your significant other will absolutely appreciate.

When It’s Time to Replace

Our original Washlet lasted years. Eventually the heated dryer stopped heating.

For me, that was a deal breaker.

(My wife, on the other hand, didn’t consider it urgent.)

Let’s just say one of us benefits more from the dryer than the other.

No further explanation needed.

The Environmental Angle

Bidets reduce toilet paper usage significantly.

Less paper means:

  • Fewer trees cut down

  • Less water used in paper production

  • Less waste

It’s a small lifestyle shift with a measurable environmental impact.

Final Thoughts

I was skeptical.

Now I won’t go without one.

Installing a bidet seat is:

  • Inexpensive

  • DIY-friendly

  • A genuine quality-of-life upgrade

It might not be glamorous.

But sometimes the best improvements in life are the ones nobody talks about.

The Best Life definitely recommends.

In this video we'll show you the steps to correctly install your Washlet.
